What Makes a Roof Leak? or The Devil is in the Details.

99.5% of all roof leaks start at a flashing or some type of roof penetration or some other construction design detail like barge rafter/ facia intersections, roof, crickets, roof valleys etc.

One time when I was testifying for the California State License Board for the consumer side, and the contractor tried to say he wasn’t responsible for the roof leaks because all roof flashings were specifically excluded in his warranty.

I  made the argument that the warranty was ridiculous because that is virtually where all roof leaks happen and where they were happening here.

He lost.

The point is the detail work on your roof is of the utmost importance and that’s where experience and integrity come in.

It’s also the main reason that we pay our roofers by the hour instead of piecework, so that they can afford to take their time on the detail work.
